Trump's new Labor pick 'deserves serious consideration'

Is Andrew Puzder cooked? Republicans flip on Trump's labor secretary pick

Puzder, Trump's first pick, came under heavy scrutiny after it was revealed he had not only employed an undocumented worker but had failed to pay taxes on her employment until he was nominated to serve as Trump's Labor secretary.

Acosta, the dean of the law school at Florida International University, served as an assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division under President George W. Bush and is a former USA attorney for the Southern District of Florida. Puzder had been losing support within Senate Republicans, with up to 12 Republican senators thought to be wavering on voting him in.

Acosta has been dean at Florida International University since 2009 and has experience as a US attorney for the Southern District of Florida.

Confirmation was becoming increasingly unlikely.

Puzzler, a major Trump donor, was the CEO of CKE Restaurants Holdings, the parent company of Carl's Jr. and Hardee's.

"Acosta, if confirmed, would become the first Hispanic member of Trump's cabinet".

Though Acosta signed hundreds of opinions at the NLRB, those familiar with his work describe him as a careful and cautious public servant whose career trajectory suggested he may someday vie for a federal judgeship. Regardless of who Trump chooses to replace Puzder, it's unlikely the Justice Department will challenge the judge's ruling.

It was a "pretty easy call in the end", Krauthammer said on "Special Report" tonight, calling Puzder's bid "too heavy a lift for too small a payoff".

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) on Thursday offered praise for Alexander Acosta shortly after Trump announced his nomination.

Puzder's withdrawal had been widely expected to occur sometime within the next 24 hours, and has now been confirmed by both Fox Business Network and NBC News.

Puzder has denied those allegations, and in a letter sent to senators in January, Fierstein said she "regretted" the statements she made to Winfrey about her marriage with Puzder decades ago.
