339 to Counter Reliance Jio

Vodafone India

The company has announced new unlimited plans offer double the data offered by Reliance Jio, and includes unlimited free calling its own network.

Apart from this, BSNL is also offering 1GB of data usage free to all users for a period of 1 year if a user makes the above recharges within March. The operator has come up with Rs. 348 recharge pack offering unlimited free calls and 500 MB data daily for 28 days. It had also alleged that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) is "perpetuating illegality" by allowing the 4G entrant to game the interconnect regime by allowing Jio to offer free voice and data services.

After Reliance Jio's entry into the telecom space with thunderous data plan, all telecom users have joined the bandwagon. This seems more like a strategy to combat Reliance Jio.

Airtel late last week, announced that they will be offering its postpaid customers free data starting March 13. They can avail 500 MB data in a day and the remaining 500 MB in the night.

Lastly, Idea Cellular too has introduced an exciting offer to keep its user base intact.

Call it the Jio effect: telecom firms increased their advertising spends 50% to around Rs1,000 core in 2016.

BSNL said that the data of 2 GB per day is one of the best in the industry. "We offer best prices to our customers considering present trend of Indian telecom industry", BSNL board director R K Mittal, said in a statement.

The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) on Thursday asked the sector regulator to re-examine Reliance Infocomm Jio Ltd.'s promotional free services offer and inform the tribunal about the outcome in two weeks.

The tribunal further observed that the availability of special benefits as per the terms and conditions of the plan is limited to less than six months.
