'Beauty and the Beast' Waltzing to Record $170M US Bow

The Late Late Show Beauty and the Beast

"I'm excited", Hanney said. They scored a year ago with "Jungle Book", but Disney's live action hits are not usually hits (See "Lone Ranger") other than "Pirates of the Caribbean".

The film was originally scheduled for release on Thursday, but was held back after the board ordered the scene to be cut. The film stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Josh Gad as Le Fou, Luke Evans as Gaston, Ewan McGregor as Lumière, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Kevin Kline as Maurice, and Tony Award victor Audra McDonald as Garderobe.

"If you look at something like 'Beauty and the Beast, ' well, why is Belle's father, Maurice, so protective?" It's hard to not sing along with the movie when you're in the theater. Which flick are you checking out this week? "I wore blue for both premieres, and she ended up in blue in the movie, so it's kind of a lucky color", O'Hara told PEOPLE at the film's Los Angeles premiere. It took in a strong $11.5 million on its opening day, debuting as the No. 1 film in all but one market (Slovakia, where it was the No. 1 non-local film).
