Out-of-control Uber crashes into gas station, erupts into flames

Car Crash In Seattle Sends One Vehicle Slamming Into Gas Pump

KOMO News Seattle reports that the accident began around 8pm PT Monday evening, when the Uber driver (in a 2007 Nissan X-Terra) was speeding through Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood. The Nissan struck a Honda, which slid sideways into a tree, cutting it in half, according to KCPQ. It travelled two blocks at high speed after the first collision, went airborne, careened through the parking lot and mowed down two sets of pumps before hammering into a third.

"Our hearts and thoughts go out to all those involved in this bad accident, and the driver has been removed from the app", an Uber spokesperson told KOMO, adding that Uber was working with the Seattle Police Department.

The driver is a 60-year-old man. He was freed and taken to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. His own SUV kept going, and there are witnesses who say he might have tried to break or had a blown tire.

Investigators say the SUV crashed into a vehicle earlier, pushing it off the road and into a tree.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, and the 40-year-old woman riding as a passenger in the Uber was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was evaluated and tested for any sign of impairment. He was taken to a hospital where a sample of his blood was taken after a warrant was obtained.
