Tottenham Hotspur vs. Southampton 2017

Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham overcame the absence of its injured star striker to record its 10th straight Premier League home victory as it beat Southampton 2-1 Sunday at White Hart Lane.

Pochettino, though, believes his squad has grown in strength as the season has progressed and placed his faith in Son Heung-Min to fill the gap left by Kane and provide the focal point to Tottenham's attack. Dele Alli always can surprise and you cannot guess with him. This may very well be the most critical period in Janssen's young Premier League career to date. He has an unbelievable personality and character.

Southampton had their own striking dilemma with Manolo Gabbiadini limping off with a groin injury, although they responded well in the second half and pushed Spurs hard after James Ward-Prowse pulled a goal back.

"Maybe one day he can play like a goalkeeper or a full-back or a centre-back".

The Premier League title has begun to feel like a pipe dream for Tottenham Hotspur, given the majestic form of Chelsea, but they continue to suggest that they will finish as the best of the rest. The hosts will most probably be without a handful group of players who are all dealing with injuries.

Saints manager Claude Puel expects the pair to be flying at White Hart Lane on the back of their maiden worldwide calls. "Today showed great, great energy when he came on", he told reporters.

Alli's penalty, awarded for a foul on him by Steven Davis, doubled Tottenham's lead after Christian Eriksen fired his side ahead. I think they've all been in my office this season!

Tottenham won the match 2-1 against Southampton, thanks to goals from Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.

"It's frustrating because we can do better, but we played a strong game against second in the table and played at a good level". But not for the next eight or nine games if he is out for that long.

The visitors kept the pressure on, but they could not forge an opening in the remainder of a scrappy half and Spurs instead came closest to another goal as Forster saved from substitute Vincent Janssen in the final minute.

Southampton manager Claude Puel: "They [Tottenham] have a lot of wins at home, so it's a good challenge for us".
