In his first meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, Trump says Iran is one of the issues his team will discuss with the Iraqi delegation.

President Donald Trump greets Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi upon his arrival to the White House in Washington, Monday, March 20, 2017.

Trump said he also would address what he described as a "vacuum" that was created when so-called Islamic State (IS) militants took over large swaths of territory in western and northern Iraq. "The president recognizes the importance of Iraq", he said in a meeting at the US Institute of Peace.

The comment came after FBI Director James Comey testified before Congress that he has seen no evidence to back up Trump's claim that former President Obama had the billionaire's Manhattan high-rise tapped during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump planned to talk with Abadi about ways to intensify the fight against the Islamic State and relations with Iran, a White House official said.
