Two dead and one injured after stabbing in Wolverhampton

Two people have died and another is fighting for life after a stabbing in Wolverhampton.

A woman, believed to be in her 30s, died at the scene while the male suspect, also thought to be in his 30s, died shortly afterwards.

"Officers used stun grenades as they stormed the flat in a bid to distract and detain the knifeman".

Ann-Marie James, 33, was stabbed in the chest at a flat in Wolverhampton by Melvin James, West Midlands Police said.

West Midlands Police said another Woman in her fifties was taken to hospital with stomach injuries, she is in a critical condition.

"This is a truly shocking incident and our sympathies go out to the friends and family of those involved".

A police officer was also treated for minor injuries by on-the-scene ambulance staff but was quickly discharged.

Forensic investigators spent much of the day at the scene on Wednesday.

Residents had been ordered out of the flats as the police operation took place, the Wolverhampton Express and Star reported.

Air ambulances and armed police had to be dispatched to the scene in Leasowes Drive around the Merry Hill region Wednesday morning.

A spokesman from the West Midlands ambulance service (WMAS) said: "A man and woman estimated to be in their 30s had suffered very serious stab wounds".
