U.S. May Launch Preemptive Strike Against North Korea: Report

North Korea warned the United States on Saturday to end its "military hysteria" or face retaliation as a U.S. aircraft carrier group steamed towards the region and the reclusive state marked the "Day of the Sun", the 105th birth anniversary of its founding father.

The North Korean military issued a statement on Friday threatening to attack major United States military bases in South Korea, as well as the presidential Blue House, warning that it could annihilate those targets "within minutes".

After inspecting an honor guard, Kim, in a black suit, watched the parade pour into Kim Il-Sung Square, accompanied by top military and party leaders, state television showed in a live broadcast.

Other senior officials joining Kim at the parade podium included Kim Won Hong, who the South Korean government had said earlier this year was sacked from his job as state security minister, presumably over corruption.

According to the newspaper, Kim showed off "a lot" of its newest missiles, including a submarine-launched ballistic missile and a land-based missile, which theoretically could reach all of the United States.

Wang's comments come after the United States Navy deployed a carrier group in the region and expressed concerns over North Korea's nuclear power.

Kim Jong Un has engaged in a war of words with President Trump amid recent missile tests.

North Korea warned the United States on Saturday to end its "military hysteria" or face retaliation as a U.S. aircraft carrier group steamed towards the region and the reclusive state marked the 105th birth anniversary of its founding father.

North Korea also showcased short-range missiles Saturday that could threaten its neighbors in Asia.

Weapons analysts said they believed some of the missiles on display were new types of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).

"It will be the largest of miscalculations if the United States treats us like Iraq and Libya, which are living out miserable fates as victims of aggression, and Syria, which didn't respond immediately even after it was attacked", said a Friday statement by the general staff of the North Korean army, according to the official Korean Central News Agency.

DPRK stands for the official name of North Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

North Korea showed off its military might during a parade in Pyongyang on Saturday, in celebration of its founder's birthday.

Tensions are deepening as the US has sent an aircraft carrier to waters off the peninsula and is conducting its biggest-ever joint military exercises with South Korea.

The US president has called on Chinese president Xi Jinping to resolve the issue saying he believes the premier will "work very hard" to tackle Pyongyang.

It has carried out five nuclear tests -- two of them a year ago -- and multiple missile launches, one of which saw several rockets come down in waters provocatively close to Japan last month. The country said it could test a nuclear weapon whenever its current leader, Kim Jong Un, decided.

North Korea, meanwhile, has been conducting nuclear weapons tests.
