Antonio Conte: 'Premier League title race is still open'

Pochettino turns up heat on Premier League leaders Chelsea

PEP GUARDIOLA says he has learned important lessons from his worst-ever season as a manager.

Pep Guardiola feels Manchester City have made progress this season even though they will fall below expectations.

City have not lost to Hull at home since 1930 when they were beaten 2-1 in an FA Cup tie.

Guardiola has vowed to improve in 2017-18 but admits he is hugely frustrated that he failed to act on concerns he spotted in the 5-0 first-leg win over Steaua in the Champions League play-off round, where Sergio Aguero netted a hat-trick after missing two penalties. "Normally, that game would be 12-0", Guardiola said. I was happy because the first target was to qualify but after that, in the Everton and Middlesbrough games, I realised we had to play really, really, well to win games. "The "mind game" is to provide my team with belief and character, which we showed at Swansea", said the Argentine.

"We created chances but we had problems scoring them and we suffered". They shoot two or three times on our goal and they score two goals.

"Vincent was injured but he was ready for the last two or three weeks". But we have to be honest with ourselves.

City also under-achieved in the Champions League, failing to get beyond the last 16, but Guardiola has been pleased with some aspects of the season.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach won his first 10 competitive matches, to fuel talk that he would take English football by storm.

The Catalan also needs to win the FA Cup if he is to avoid the first trophyless season of his career.

"We came back in a strong way against a really tough team".

Asked how he will respond to the season, he said: "I will be better".

"When you are seven points above the second-placed team with eight games to go, it is normal in the end to win the league", Pochettino told a news conference ahead of his side's clash with Watford on Saturday.

"It can happen. You learn about that".

"Maybe that is what I should do in advance - correct that - but it is part of our growth". I tried to adapt as much as possible. I didn't complain, I didn't give up.

"Still we have a lot of attractive things to fight for - to qualify for the Champions League is so important and would be a huge success, and we have the semi-finals of the FA Cup".
