Boro better than Premier League position suggests - Clayton

Boro must believe in Premier League survival - Gestede

The table after Monday night's 2-1 home defeat by Arsenal made for hard reading on Teesside with Boro lying in 19th place, six points adrift of Hull in 17th with six games remaining and without a league win since December 17.

"If you asked the other teams 'Are Middlesbrough one of the three worst teams in the league?', I don't suppose many would say we are".

He said: "I couldn't be more proud of the group of players, they gave every ounce of energy over 94 minutes".

"There are more points to play for and nobody in the bottom three is pulling up trees and running clear". After their three-goal dismantling at the hands of Crystal Palace succumbed them to their third Premier League loss in their last five games, Arsene Wenger's side now find themselves seven points in arrears of the top four.

"We have to believe we can do it".

"We pushed them back and your just thinking the ball's going to bounce in the right area", the coach added. If we don't, it will be goodnight. "We have to win probably all our games to get into that".

Sanchez scored a brilliant free-kick and although Boro hit back through Alvaro Negredo, Arsene Wenger's team showed some resolve and found a victor through Mesut Ozil.

"We kept going, kept getting into unsafe positions and in the end we came away with the three points". One win will change it all.

Gibson only signed a new long-term contract last summer but Boro know they'll have no chance of keeping hold of him if they go down while a move could still be on the cards even if the Teeside club manage to avoid the drop.

"As I've just said to them, we'll start to prepare tomorrow and we go to Bournemouth ready".

"We have to make our own luck".
