Firmino grabs another victor, Liverpool beats West Brom

Brighton's Sebastien Pocognoli scores their second goal with a free-kick

Simon Mignolet felt Liverpool proved their critics wrong with a resilient 1-0 win at West Brom.

Liverpool are back up to third in the table, two points ahead of Manchester City having played a game more than Pep Guardiola side.

Tony Pulis was left disappointed by Roberto Firmino's goal on the stroke of half-time, suggesting the goal should not have stood as West Brom slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at the Hawthorns.

Liverpool was the better team at The Hawthorns but almost got picked off late on in West Brom's only clear sight of goal.

"It is one of the most hard places to come because in no game can you feel comfortable", he told a post-match news conference.

"That makes it really hard, so you need to be at your highest concentration level - but we have been". "It's a hard place to come but that doesn't make us more happy", he said.

Milner volleyed over Liverpool's clearest second-half chance, as they secured a fifth win in seven games. For us, it was very important because showing this concentration level until the end didn't work each week in the last few months, but today it was really good and I am happy about this.

"I said "it is already a good week for you, it could have been perfect".

The manager's reasoning was that if his players could deal with the ball in the air as it swirled about in the wind, they would be able to handle anything West Brom threw at them. In all our plans it was "no set-pieces, no set-pieces, no set-pieces".

He said: "He could have played to Daniel, but maybe if he plays he is offside? I would have been happy for him, actually, if he'd scored this goal, but there was excitement until the end - which is pretty much always the way it is when we are involved".
