Following the very serious incidents that occurred during the warm-up, the DDSP (Departmental Director of Public Security) had indeed chose to play the game but to stop it at the slightest incident.

Crowd trouble forced an early end to the Ligue 1 clash between Bastia and Lyon following ugly scenes at the Stade Armand Cesari. "None of them wanted to come back out of the changing room and play the match".

The Lyon players returned to the pitch almost 40 minutes later and the match eventually kicked off shortly before 1600.

Bastia's home game with Lyon in French Ligue 1 was abandoned at half time after supporters of the Corsican side twice invaded the pitch and attacked the visiting players on Sunday.

The balls were thrown back by Lyon forward Memphis Depay before the players were attacked by Bastia supporters.

Stewards managed to get shepherd Lyon's players down the tunnel and into the dressing room.

On Friday, UEFA, Europe's governing body, confirmed four charges against the French club, who could face a heavy fine or play their next home match behind closed doors. They and the staff were all very shocked.

Lyon star striker Alexandre Lacazette, who was not playing, tweeted: "Pfffff shameful!"

Bastia are nearly certain to be hit with a serious punishment by the French league's disciplinary panel following a string of previous offenses.
