Klopp delighted by Liverpool concentration

Liverpool player ratings vs West Brom: 8/10 Firmino match winner, Reds ace puts in super display

West Bromwich - Jurgen Klopp singled out much-derided Simon Mignolet for special praise after the goalkeeper stood firm in the face of a West Bromwich Albion barrage to help grind out a priceless 1-0 away win.

"It is one of the most hard places to go because you can't feel comfortable in one moment of the game", said Klopp. We are very pleased with the performance and those three points were massive today. He defended well and, honestly, it was a really good game. Klopp added: "It is not only set-pieces with West Brom, they have really good footballers on the pitch and if you are a little bit less aggressive immediately they [start to] play".

'You need to be on the highest concentration level.

"You can always do better, but we learned in the game and I liked it a lot that the second half looked better tuned than the first".

"Clearly for the rest of the season he is, but I still think the manager will revisit it because he nailed his colours to the mast when he brought Karius in and said he was his number 1".

It took until the 80th minute for the Baggies to really threaten when substitute Rondon turned Matip and fed in Phillips, who saw his strike saved from inside of the box by the legs of Mignolet.

The win is even more freaky when you consider the fact that Liverpool scored from a set piece.

Alberto Moreno should have made it 2-0 in injury time after goalkeeper Ben Foster joined the Albion attacks but missed an open goal from 40 yards after Foster and James McClean lost the ball. I think three, four, five fists away, which was really good, I have to say. "I don't like keepers going up for corners personally but I've never said it to Ben so he didn't know".

Chelsea's defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday was a fourth in games against their top seven rivals, while Tottenham's impressive record at their White Hart Lane home sees them sitting third in this selective league table.

As they continue to fight to finish in the top four in the Premier League this season to qualify for the Champions League, the Reds needed to collect all three points this weekend to continue to put themselves in a strong position moving forward.
