Samsung's Bixby voice assistant is being delayed

It was dubbed as one of the most exciting features on the Galaxy S8, giving competition to Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, Amazon's Alexa, and Google Assistant.

There's some bad news for those who were waiting to experience Samsung's new voice functionality - the service will not be available when the Galaxy S8 launches on 21 April.

The rollout of the Korean version of Bixby will continue as planned, but English-speaking users will have to make do with Google's voice assistant until Samsung provides an update.

Samsung confirmed that voice control would not be ready in time for the Galaxy S8 launch in a statement to The Verge.

Those who have pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S8 ready for its global launch on April 21st will be able to take advantage of Bixby's augmented reality camera feature - dubbed Bixby Vision.

The company has refused to comment on why the voice command has been delayed. "Bixby Voice will be available in the United States on the Galaxy S8 later this spring", Samsung said in a statement to The Verge.

This allows smartphone owners to scan real-world elements, including book covers, landmarks, and more, to search the internet for similar items, additional information on whatever you're looking at, or shopping results.

Samsung added: "When an application becomes Bixby-enabled, Bixby will be able to support nearly every task that the application is capable of performing using the conventional interface (i.e. touch commands)". Samsung described Bixby as a tool that would let you perform any touch actions by voice on the Galaxy S8, which would be a huge win for Samsung.

Also, Samsung Electronics had already hinted that the Bixby voice wouldn't be launching in full, originally, detailing that voice controls would be integrated into some key native apps with a limited number of languages being supported at launch. Notably, though, the AI assistant failed to work when it was showed to tech journalists.

Samsung told that the feature will be pushed-out to UK Galaxy S8 owners later this year.
