Palestinians are planning a series of actions to draw US President Donald Trump's attention to a hunger strike by hundreds of prisoners in Israeli jails when he visits this week, officials said Sunday.

A discussion will take place at the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism in Johannesburg on Sunday and will include Palestinian diplomat Majed Bamya.

More than 200 Palestinian detainees have joined the mass hunger strike which, up until now, according to WAFA, has included the participation of over 1,800 detainees.

The Israeli organisation added that "Palestinian travel is restricted or entirely prohibited on 41 roads and sections of roads throughout the West Bank, including numerous main traffic arteries, covering a total of over 700 kilometres of roadway".

The AP, citing video footage, witnesses, and medical officals, reported that a man, whom Israeli media identified as a settler, fatally shot a protester and shot their photographer in the hand after dozens of protesters blocked the road near the Hawara checkpoint.

A similar incident occurred the day before near the Palestinian village of Silwad in the West Bank.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has insisted the settler be arrested for the death of the young man.

Protesters also blockaded roads and intersections with burning tyres and debris throughout the occupied territory, while entrances to some offices of the United Nations and Red Cross were blocked. They were transferred to Shifa Hospital in western Gaza City. Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, the Israeli authorities say.

However, onlookers said the killing was unnecessary as she could have been physically overpowered.

In December, the Israeli government lashed out over a UN Security Council resolution that condemned Israeli settlement building in the Palestinian Territories and called on Israel to stop immediately.
