President Trump nominates Indiana Health Commissioner Jerome Adams for US Surgeon General

Adams first became Indiana State Health Commissioner in 2014

If confirmed, Jerome M. Adams of IN will serve as Medical Director IN the Regular Corps of the Public Health Service, subject to qualifications therefor as provided by law and regulations, and to be Surgeon General of the Public Health Service for a term of four years.

Adams tweeted on Thursday, "Truly honored at (the) nomination".

He was appointed to the position by then-Governor Mike Pence and re-appointed by Governor Holcomb in January 2017.

President Donald Trump is nominating Indiana's Health Commissioner to be the next U.S. Surgeon General.

ASTHO is the national nonprofit organization representing the public health agencies of the United States, the USA territories, and the District of Columbia, as well as the more than 100,000 public health professionals these agencies employ.

"Jerome M. Adams, of IN, to be Medical Director IN the Regular Corps of the Public Health Service, subject to qualifications therefor as provided by law and regulations, and to be Surgeon General of the Public Health Service for a term of four years, vice Vivek Hallegere Murthy".

If confirmed by the Senate, Adams, an anesthesiologist, would become the fourth IN resident to take a high-ranking position IN the Trump administration. "The President would be hard-pressed to find a more exceptional person for this position".

He describes himself as a dad, anesthesiologist, public health advocate and Indiana's state health commissioner.

Adams would replace acting Surgeon General Rear Adm. Sylvia Trent-Adams, who has filled the post since April after Trump removed Dr. Vivek Murthy, who had been appointed by President Barack Obama. "I look forward to voting to confirm him".

He earned a B.S.in biochemistry and a B.A.in biopsychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He earned his Medical Doctorate at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and his Masters of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley.
