Disney's bi-annual D23 Expo is now taking place in Anaheim, California, where the studio is offering sneak peeks at its Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars films.

Ava DuVernay stated at the D23 expo before the release of the trailer that she "saw herself" in the story and wanted to create something new, meaning a whole new diverse cast. Which, while Reese Witherspoon is Mrs. Whatsit and Mindy Kaling is Mrs. Who.

In August 2016, The LA Times reported that DuVernay is already breaking records with A Wrinkle in Time, for being the first woman of color to direct a movie with a budget over $100 million dollars.

DuVernay says that when she and Disney asked Oprah Winfrey to be part of the project, she stated she had never read the book before. This is a great first look and I can't wait to see more. Which. The film also stars Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, André Holland, Zach Galifianakis, Bellamy Young, Rowan Blanchard, Will McCormack and newcomer Deric McCabe.

The film, which saw Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon jet into Queenstown for filming earlier this year, hits theaters March 9, 2018.

The Disney film adaption of author Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time received its first trailer today during Disney's D23 conference.
