Disney Introduces Its Live-Action 'Aladdin' Stars, Including Will Smith

Mena Massoud

Disney has been giving the live-action treatment to several of its beloved animated film. His love interest, Princess Jasmine, will be played by "Power Rangers" star Naomi Scott.

The Disney classic will be directed by Guy Ritchie. As well as locking down the talent involved, it was revealed that the film will not be a direct adaptation of the 1992 animation.

British star Naomi is best known for her role in the recent Power Rangers reboot while Egyption-born, Canada-bred Mena is set to star in the upcoming Jack Ryan television series. That's not least that they need to find someone to play the villain, Jafar, as well as various other roles. And his name is Mena Massoud.

Will Smith was first reported by THR last week, but has now been confirmed.

Disney announced the cast for its upcoming live-action remake of "Aladdin" Saturday on Twitter.

Veteran actor Smith was said to be in talks for his role back in April, but choosing the right Aladdin and Jasmine apparently took longer.

After some controversy, Aladdin has cast its lead character.

Will Smith is playing Genie in Disney's "Aladdin".

Jafar is the Royal Vizier of Agrabah who is bent on taking over the kingdom by exploiting Genie's magic. Big Fish scribe John August wrote the script for the Aladdin movie.

Dan Lin will produce the project under his Lin Pictures banner and Jonathan Eirich will executive produce.
