Pet dog resuscitated by California firefighters

Firefighters rescued a small white dog named Jack from a house fire in Bakersfield, California and revived the animal on camera, in a video that has been shared widely on social media.

The post includes a video clip that shows the dog appearing unresponsive, with his eyes shut and his tiny body slightly quivering but not moving around when a firefighter tries to shake him and get a response.

The fire department team have been praised and honoured for their efforts in saving the dog.

The firefighters' good deed paid off as the dog came to on camera, panting heavily but alert.

Moments later, he comes around and is well enough to be reunited with his owner. Bakersfield firefighters desperately gave the animal oxygen as it struggled to regain consciousness.

The firefighter who carried him from the home visited Jack on Thursday.

The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital where medics discovered burns on his paws and respiratory tract injuries.

Bakersfield Fire Department Battalion Chief John Frando said firefighters encountered "heavy fire" at the home.

"I thought Jack was going to die", he said.
