Trump said Apple's Tim Cook 'promised' him he'd build three US factories, says report

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said in an interview that Apple Inc.

Apple declined to comment to the Wall Street Journal.

Apple came under fire from Trump during his campaign because it makes most of its products in China.

Without details about the natue of Apple's three-plant plan, it's hard to interpret what President Trump was trying to convey in the WSJ interview.

"I said you know, Tim, unless you start building your plants in this country, I won't consider my administration an economic success".

The world's largest company by market valuation had also claimed that it created 2 million jobs in the United States, 80,000 of which are directly at Apple and the rest coming from suppliers and developers for the company's app ecosystem. Fellow Apple supplier Foxconn has also eyed new USA plants for display panels, the Journal reported earlier this week.

Cook said in May that Apple planned to create a $1 billion fund to invest in US companies that perform advanced manufacturing.
