Raiders put kicker Sebastian Janikowski on injured reserve

Janikowski (back) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The team also signed Giorgio Tavecchio to serve as their kicker while Janikowski is on IR.

Janikowski has been in the news recently due to a contract dispute with the Raiders.

Janikowski is the franchise's career leader in games played with 268 and points with 1,799. He made 3-of-4 field goals and 5-of-6 extra points for the Raiders during the 2017 preseason.

Janikowski has been bothered in recent weeks by the back injury and the Raiders brought in Josh Lambo, Mike Nugent and Marshall Koehn for workouts earlier this week.

However, as long as he keeps drilling field goals of more than 50 yards, Raider Nation is OK with the Milan, Italy native filling in for the Polish Cannon. He has never attempted a field goal in a regular season game.

Tavecchio kicked in college at Cal and bounced around different teams after going undrafted in 2012. Having him back for the second half of the season would provide a big boost for Oakland.
