Hamilton under late September heat warning

Weekend forecast prompts heat warning

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Toronto and the surrounding region ahead of an unseasonably warm fall weekend that will raise temperatures in excess of 30 C.

"But to put together this many days where we're getting temperatures well above normal, perhaps record-breaking, one day after the other, is certainly something we don't see very often."

As for the warm weather warning, the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, swimming pool, shower or bath, or air-conditioned spot like a public building.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says a normal high for this time of the year is 19 degrees.

Environment Canada has also issued a heat warning.

Temperatures and humidity are expected to increase this weekend under mostly sunny skies.

Toronto's temperature high now sits around the 19°C mark for mid-September, although those temperatures are expected to be more like 13°C or 14°C in October and will fall even more towards the end of the month.
