His final role paired him with Lynch in the upcoming film Lucky (out September 29), about the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist. On Thursday, the multitalented actor passed away in Los Angeles. Stanton was the Repo Man, Bud, schooling young Emilio Estevez's character, Otto.

For quite a long time Stanton lived in a little, rumpled house neglecting the San Fernando Valley, and was an apparatus at the West Hollywood point of interest Dan Tana's. 'Roger Ebert once said, "No movie featuring Harry Dean Stanton can be altogether bad.' That is the power of a truly extraordinary actor".

Dean later said: "After Jack said that, my whole approach to acting opened up". In fact, the Hollywood Reporter, which calls Stanton the "quintessential American actor", argues he was memorable in pretty much every role he took.

After Navy service in the Pacific during World War II, he spent three years at the University of Kentucky and appeared in several plays.

Stanton never wedded, despite the fact that he had an involved acquaintance with performing artist Rebecca De Mornay, 35 years his lesser.

Stanton was also a musician, and he performed in a scene of the recently aired third season of "Twin Peaks". Stanton's agent said that he will be survived by the "family and friends who loved him".

In Hellman's Two-Lane Blacktop (1971), Stanton has just a few minutes on screen - playing a lonely, gay hitchhiker who puts a hand on Warren Oates' knee - but he's unforgettable. It paid off. The film is a near-masterpiece and lot of the reason is Stanton.

I shamefully admit that my first memories of Stanton are from Pretty in Pink, but what else would you expect from a girl who grew up during the '80s and '90s.

Stanton appeared in many films and television shows over a career that lasted half a century.

The actor plays a sympathetic, complicated father to Molly Ringwald's main character.

A 91-year-old actor leaving a great career behind him, his filmography has no less than 250 projects.

Lynch, who cast him in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, The Straight Story and Twin Peaks, mourned the actor's death. "There went a great one.everybody loved him".

Harry Dean Stanton has spent a lifetime in show-business. "He was a great actor, actually beyond great, and a great human being".
