Miss America 2018, Cara Mund, takes victory (toe) dip in ocean

3rd night of Miss America preliminaries set for Friday

Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund, is the lucky victor of a $50,000 scholarship and a six-figure salary income during her reign.

Continuing the year of surpriseconclusions during live TV events, Miss North Dakota Cara Mund won the Miss America pageant on Sunday night, the first time in the show's almost 100-year history that the state has claimed the prize.

"Honestly? It was to get to Miss America and make it past the Top 10", Mund said.

The newest Miss America is starting her term as a climate crusader. The win is also a milestone for the pageant and North Dakota as Mund became the first candidate from her state to get the "Miss America" crown. "I do believe it's a bad decision", she said. "Once we reject that, we take ourselves out of the negotiating table, and that's something that we really need to keep in mind".

Cara Mund is an Ivy League Honors Graduate from Brown University where she earned her degree in Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations. "It's important to have a woman's perspective".

"We should investigate it to its fullest extent, and if we do find evidence, the justice system should do their due diligence", she said. She added that only three girls from her state made it to that stage of the pageant.

"It was very obvious that it was a terrorist attack", Wood said.

"So we need to always remember our history of being slave owning racists?" Since the age of six, Mund has been participating in beauty pageants and won titles including Little Miss, Miss Pre-Teen and Miss Junior Teen.

Miss Missouri Jennifer Davis emerged as 1st Runner-Up, while Kaitlyn Schoeffel representing New Jersey came in at 2nd Runner-Up. "I'm thinking about everyone in Florida every single day", Miss Florida, Sara Zeng, said early in the broadcast.

Miss Texas Margana Wood gave a shout-out to her flooded hometown, Houston; she won Wednesday night's swimsuit preliminary.

Notwithstanding a field of 51 highly talented young women, Alabama born Briana Kinsey finished as the third runner up in last night's Miss America Pageant. Mund took over the title from last year's victor, Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields.
