Packers rally in second half to beat Seahawks

Carroll Rawls is questionable for Seahawks’ season opener

The Seattle Seahawks, led by quarterback Russell Wilson, meet the Green Bay Packers, led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, in the first game of the National Football League season for both teams on Sunday, September 10, 2017 (9/10/17), at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

It was a chippy game that saw Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane get ejected in the first half.

After a three-and-out by Seattle, Rodgers went to work again. "Today, they made one or two more plays more than us".

The Green Bay Packers again found a way to contain the Seahawks' dual-threat quarterback at Lambeau Field. The Legion of Boom is the heart of the Seattle defense, and they've been missing members in each of their previous encounters with Green Bay. But the way Bennett came to Rodgers' defense was perhaps his most memorable play.

On the ensuing offense drive, which started at midfield, Seattle gained only eight yards and was forced to punt. Wilson faced constant pressure throughout the game, with Green Bay piling up three sacks, seven knockdowns and nine QB hits, per the Fox telecast. But after C.J. Prosise picked up a first down with a 4-yard run Seattle got aggressive. After two running plays that went nowhere, Wilson completed a 34-yard, scramble throw to Doug Baldwin, then ran 29-yards for a first down.

"I don't worry about the games before", Wilson said.

Beyond Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams and Randall Cobb, the Packers also have a glut of young receivers they're developing. Rookie Chris Carson showed that he could be explosive by running on the edge for a 15 yard gain, but that was about it. In the receiving end, Austin Hooper posted 128 yards and a touchdown in two catches while Julio Jones added 66 yards in four catches.

The same offensive line that yielded three sacks and a slew of hurries and plowed the way for all of 225 total yards, and just 90 on the ground.

Nice day for Walsh: Seahawks fans may remember Blair Walsh during his time in Minnesota, when he missed a last-second chip shot that would have eliminated the Seahawks from the 2015 NFC playoffs. Michael Bennett (1.5), Avril (1.0), Terence Garvin (1.0) and Frank Clark (0.5) recorded the sacks.

The first half would have ended scoreless had McCarthy's decision to use two timeouts with Seattle backed up in the final minute not backfired. The Packers had not been blanked at Lambeau in the first half since 2004.

Carroll (8th season, Seattle) needs one win to tie Don Coryell for 36th place on the NFL's all time coaches wins list with 114. The Packers were 11-7-1 against the spread.

The Packers have a brutal road game in Week 2.

This would be the ultimate troll job after his career with the Green Bay Packers came to an abrupt end following last season. Thomas Rawls is coming off a high-ankle sprain and hasn't played since the preseason opener August 13. This game is basically a toss-up and I can see both offenses being extremely hard to stop. "For me, it's going to be the first time being on the opposite side of that".

"He simply makes that thing go, so keeping him in the pocket has been instrumental as far as forcing his arm to beat us because when he escapes the pocket, much like Aaron, that's when he's most unsafe, when those receivers become uncovered", Matthews said. It's definitely something to learn from. "I don't think the play was well-officiated", he tweeted. We had a chance to to do it at the end but couldn't get off the field. "It lets guys know this is what we've got, this is who we are". It's such a bid call. "He's done everything we have asked of him, for weeks and weeks now", Carroll said. And they scored on the next play. "That's the bottom line".
