Android Wear section disappears from Google Store, smartwatches "no longer available"

Krales The Verge

Until now the app used to come pre-installed on Android phones but now you can easily download it and use it. One of those was the removal of all Android Wear devices from the online Google Store, including the "flagship" LG Watch Sport and Watch Style.

Google introduced the "Made by Google" branding previous year, alongside the Pixel and other products. The Assistant was first exclusive to Pixel devices but it, later on, was made available for other Android Nougat devices as well.

Amidst surprising great events that Google hosted, silently it unveiled the Google Assistant App in the Play Store. To begin with, the company has updated the Play Store policy, encouraging developers to start building the app.

We've contacted Google for comment and will update this story when we hear back.

If you are thinking that by downloading this app you can add the Google Assistant to your unsupported devices, then you might be left disappointed.

In addition, when accessing the MODE watch bands page, a user is automatically redirected to the Google Store homepage. You can still access your Assistant by pressing and holding down your home button or by simply saying, "Ok Google". You can also use it to set reminders about anything. The more likely explanation at this stage is that Google is looking to emphasise the "Made By Google" moniker, and, since it hasn't actually outright "made" a smartwatch, the LG pairing don't fit with the rest of the Store's line.
