Castroneves Confirmed for Penske Acura DPi Entry

Penske makes it official: IndyCar great Helio Castroneves moving to IMSA, sports cars in 2018

"Having established winning drivers like Helio and Juan, teaming up with young and talented racers that know the series like Dane Cameron, will help give our new sports auto program a solid foundation as we head into the 2018 season". Castroneves will join Juan Pablo Montoya and Dane Cameron in one of two Acura ARX-05 Daytona Prototype International (DPi) entries next season.

After a 20-year full-time career in the IndyCar Series, of which 18 seasons were spent driving for Team Penske, three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves, 42, is moving on.

Castroneves will spend the 2018 season competing for Team Penske's new sports vehicle program, though he will still race in next year's Indy 500.

"Helio has been a valuable member of Team Penske for nearly 20 years", said team owner Roger Penske of his three-time Indy 500 victor, "and we are looking forward to sharing more success together".

"Helio has been a valuable member of Team Penske for nearly 20 years and we are looking forward to sharing more success together", Penske said.

In his first two seasons in IndyCar, the only two seasons during which he did not drive for Team Penske, Castroneves drove for Bettenhausen Racing and Hogan Racing in 1998 and 1999, respectively.

He's the longest tenured driver in Team Penske history. Helping Roger (Penske), the team and everyone with Acura start this program and build it from the ground up will be another big challenge and a great opportunity in my career.

Ricky Taylor is expected to be announced as the fourth and final full-season driver in the Penske lineup but confirmation is not likely until after this weekend's race due to his contractual obligations with GM.

Castroneves first started with Team Penske in 2000 and won 30 races in that time span, including back-to-back Indianapolis 500's in 2001 and 2002 and a third in 2009. I am proud of everything we have accomplished together in INDYCAR. His teammate, Josef Newgarden, secured the Verizon IndyCar Series championship last month. This represents a new challenge for him, and I know he is excited about the opportunity. "We've come so close the last few years, and with this team, I know we will have a great opportunity to try and make some history".

Despite never winning an IndyCar season championship, his fourth-place finish in the standings this year was the 14th time he'd finished inside the top 10. "Having established winning drivers like Helio and Juan, teaming up with young and talented racers that know the series like Dane Cameron, will help give our new sports auto program a solid foundation as we head into the 2018 season".

He was denied a record-equalling win at the this year's Indy 500 when he finished a heartbreaking second to Japan's Takuma Sato.
