House okays mental health bill on 2nd reading

Prof. Lal highlighted the magnificent role that the human brain plays in all aspects of an individual's life and stressed on why one should maintain a healthy body in order to have a healthy mind.

This year's World Mental Health Week has been launched, with a call on employers to streamline mental health of employees in their human resource management.

Prof. Borooah advocated PERMA (Positive Emotions, Engagement, Positive Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment) which if practiced correctly and acquired in good measure leads to well being.

World Mental Health Day is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.

Day two of seminar saw Dr. P. Ngully capture the audience with a fascinating presentation on mental illness in the workplace using case studies. He emphasized on eating brain healthy food and in training our brain to be a leader, inventor, teacher and user so as to live a mentally and emotionally healthy life.

During the last academic session of seminar, presentation on the causes and management of stress at work settings was delivered by NU, department of management assistant professor Dr. Ditalak Mpanme. R.C.Gupta and prof. Buno Liegise gave away the certificates.

Tsekhute Chirah of third semester MA Psychology received the first prize of the art competition held on the theme of the seminar.

Amenla Jamir B.Ed student encouraged the gathering saying that as teachers, bankers, officers and any worker it was important to have positive mental health.

Wildgoose said the survey also revealed a substantial stigma surrounding mental health at work, with nearly half of those who had taken a day off calling in sick with a different complaint. Emcor UK started a three-year collaboration with the charity in January to raise awareness, promote understanding, and provide support to the company's 4,000 employees about mental health and well-being.

Under the bill, every person shall have the right to the best available mental health care, which shall be part of the health and social care and protection system.
