Pokémon GO Gen III Halloween event now live

Pokemon GO Halloween just got REAL

Pokemon Go is getting a new batch of monsters to collect this Halloween, developer of the location-based augmented reality app Niantic has confirmed. First seen in the Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire video games, they'll pop up gradually starting in early December. It will also offer the chance to snare a special Witch Hat Pikachu. Here comes the full roster of gen 3 characters (eventually)! Aside from the arrival of new ghost-type Pokemons such as Sableye, Banette and others, Ghastly, Cubone and Drowzzee are back as well. You'll also find more Ghost-types in general, with more Cubones, Houndours, and others roving about. Pokemon Go's staggered rollout of generation three mirrors the way Niantic released generation two, adding seven baby Pokemon (and one evolution) in December 2016, followed by the almost complete release of generation two in early 2017.

It's been a badly kept secret for a few days now but Generation III Pokémon are officially heading to Pokémon GO as part of 2017's Halloween event. Finally, you'll be able to grab the Mimikyu Disguise Hat for your avatar to wear.

The event starts at 8pm (BST) on Friday 20 October.

The candy rewards from catching, hatching, and transferring Pokémon will be doubled, and the Pokemon will find candy twice as fast during the Halloween celebration. Trainers will also have the opportunity to stock up on special boxes from the in-game shop, featuring items such as Raid Passes and Super Incubators. It will end November 2 at 1 p.m. EST.
