Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Still In The Works

Paramount Picks up Rights to Sonic the Hedgehog Film

In fact it looks like we could be getting a new Sonic the Hedgehog movie in the future as it appears that Paramount Pictures has recently landed the rights to the movie.

Moritz will produce the project, with Deadpool director Tim Miller taking up an executive producer role. Fowler will direct. Neal H. Moritz of the Fast & Furious movies is producing with Toby Ascher.

Sonic the Hedgehog was initially confirmed as a live-action/computer animated hybrid film in 2014.

Gamers everywhere will rejoice to hear that Sonic The Hedgehog is racing his way to the big screen.

When it comes to classic video games, Sonic the Hedgehog really takes the biscuit (or the golden rings).

Paramount Pictures have grabbed the rights for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

The plan is to make a film that blends live-action shots with computer-generated imagery to bring Sonic and his friends to the real world, while maintaining their digital appearance. Now, Paramount Pictures has grabbed the rights to the film. This is especially true considering the fact that this movie is reportedly going to be part live-action and part CGI.

"Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts", Miller said in a statement upon Fowler's hiring. Sonic has had a comic book series and many cartoons, but never a feature length film. More than 360 million copies of the game have been sold on various formats around the world, and continue to delight to this very day.

Although the movie was originally scheduled for a 2019 release, it's unclear if the studio will be able to adhere to that same timeframe, or if Sonic will have to speed his way into theaters at a later date.
