Trump offers to compare IQ tests with Tillerson

Trump challenges Tillerson to battle of IQ tests over reported 'moron' jab

The State Department has denied Tillerson ever made the comments.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he had a good relationship with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson but that Tillerson could be tougher.

"I'm not undermining. I think I'm actually strengthening authority", Mr Trump said.

In an interview with Forbes published Tuesday, Trump suggested he and Tillerson - who allegedly once called the commander in chief a "moron" - go head-to-head in an intelligence quotient showdown.

NBC News said Tillerson's "moron" comment followed a meeting on Afghanistan in which Trump compared "the decision-making process on troop levels to the renovation of a high-end NY restaurant".

Trump challenged Tillerson to "compare IQ tests", delivering a sharp-edged ribbing that threw a bright spotlight on his seemingly shaky relationship with his top diplomat.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump has repeatedly undercut Mr Tillerson's statements on some of America's most sensitive national security challenges, including Iran and North Korea, calling it as waste of time.

He produced two sets of IQ test results, one for Tillerson and one for Trump.

But, despite trashing his secretary of state's traditional approach to diplomacy ("we can talk to them") with Twitter-threats of nuclear annihilation, Trump insists his style is bolstering the White House team. "And I can tell you who is going to win".
