Verstappen and Vettel very much alike - Horner

Verstappen made a sizzling start from second place to harass pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton for the lead

Red Bull's Max Verstappen ended his birthday weekend in triumphant style with a dominant victory in yesterday's Malaysian Grand Prix.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen gave himself a flawless 20th birthday present by winning the last Malaysian GP, with teammate Daniel Ricciardo joining him on the podium in third.

"I'm very grateful to the team". "He (Hamilton) has more to lose than me in the championship so I went for it in turn one and from there I could do my own race. At the beginning I had hoped I could finish second but then after the pit stop it was just about holding on to third", he said. Else Hamilton will equal Vettel's record of four world championship titles.

"I'm pretty sure that my auto would have been very good", said Raikkonen, whose last victory came at 2013's season-opening race in Australia driving for Lotus. But I think globally that we don't have the best vehicle and we've done an exceptional job with what we have.

Verstappen overtook the Mercedes driver on the fourth lap for the lead and never looked back as he thundered to victory by more than 12 seconds.

Sebastian Vettel insists Ferrari has its reliability issues under control despite the problems faced by both himself and Kimi Raikkonen during the Malaysia Grand Prix weekend.

Hamilton came second to extend his drivers' championship lead to 34 points over Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

"The race was a tough one".

"This double podium is a very positive result for us today", Ricciardo said.

When asked how important the victory was for his son, Jos told Sky Sports F1: "I think he needs it, he deserves it".

As Verstappen eked out a lead, Ricciardo was attacking the second Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas for third place.

'We need to see now what the problem was. The pace he displayed will have Mercedes anxious as Hamilton and team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who finished fifth 56 seconds behind Verstappen, struggled for speed during yesterday's race. I think we are quicker so obviously it was a bit of a shame.

To add insult to injury (or injury to injury), Vettel was forced to hitch a ride on another vehicle after he lost his right rear tyre to a collision with Lance Stroll... in the slow-down lap.

"There are some real big problems that I can not really explain, but we need to rectify for next year's vehicle if we are going to have any chance of fighting both these teams next year when they step up their game".
