Did Sessions mislead Congress about his interactions with Russian Federation?

Sam Clovis Yanks Nom As Top USDA Scientist After Revealed To Be “Campaign Supervisor” In Rob Mueller Indictments

"It was a brief comment as we were walking towards the elevator after having a dinner together", Page, who testified about his Russian connections Thursday before the House Intelligence Committee, told Jake Tapper on CNN. Papadopoulos made the offer during a meeting that both Sessions and Mr. Trump attended in March 2016. Revelations that the attorney general was previously in a meeting with former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos and was told about Page's trips to Russian Federation have been raised by lawmakers as a subject of further inquiry.

Sessions' attendance at the meeting was revealed in court documents released Monday by special prosecutor Robert Mueller.

"The political climate inside Washington has made it impossible for me to receive balanced and fair consideration for this position", Clovis said in a resignation letter to Trump, according to a Politico report.

In addition to Leahy and Blumenthal, Senators Al Franken (Minn.) and Chuck Schumer (NY) are calling for the attorney general to testify. Page said the trips were "completely unrelated to my limited volunteer role with the campaign and as I've done dozens of times throughout my life". CNN on Thursday reported Page testified in closed-door testimony before the House Intelligence Committee that he told Sessions he was traveling to Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential campaign.

"He now needs to come back before the Committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he can not seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions", Leahy, a former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, told The New York Times.

CNN had also reported that the encounter Page described occurred at a dinner at the Capitol Hill Club, at which Page approached Sessions to say hello and mentioned he was headed to Russian Federation, according to a source familiar with the meeting.

Sessions had not previously disclosed the meeting, despite being asked over multiple appearances on Capitol Hill whether he or anyone on the campaign ever discussed meeting with Russians. "If I were Sessions, I wouldn't have recalled it either".

"He lied under oath at least twice, and most recently Carter Page and George Papadopoulos, based on their testimony and their statements, they show that Jeff Sessions contradicted himself when he said he was not aware of any campaign official talking to the Russians", Lieu said.

Sessions has been dogged over his testimony before Congress about interactions with Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign.

A source at the Department of Justice confirmed to HuffPost that Sessions spoke out against the idea.
