Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke, Cook earn senior England calls

Angus Gunn trains at St George's Park this week and he will now join up with the senior squad

Southgate, who gave five players their global first-team debuts against Germany on Friday, has added goalkeeper Angus Gunn, defender Lewis Cook and striker Dominic Solanke to the squad for Tuesday's Wembley encounter with the five-times World Cup winners.

The three players linked up with the Three Lions on Saturday evening, having all played a part in the Under-21s' 2-0 victory over Ukraine in Kiev on Friday night.

The 21-year-old has subsequently been promoted to the senior setup after the withdrawal of Stoke City stopper Jack Butland, who broke a finger in training in his latest injury setback.

Liverpool striker Solanke and Bournemouth midfielder Cook were both key members of England's 2017 Federation Internationale de Football Association U20 World Cup-winning squad, as top goalscorer and captain respectively.

Following England's 0-0 draw with Germany on Friday, Southgate said he is likely to call up more players from the under-21 squad, describing it as "a no-brainer".

Striker Solanke has appeared in seven Premier League games this season, while Cook has played in four for the Cherries.

This is a proud moment for Gunn, but also Norwich, and it is clear that everyone associated with the Canaries is delighted to hear about Gunn's selection in the senior England squad.
