Nicki Minaj's brother found guilty in Long Island child sex assault case

Nicki Minaj's brother was just found guilty in his child rape trial... a case that lasted nearly 3 weeks

James R. Ray III, a civil attorney who briefly represented the mother, testified that he did demand $25 million from Jelani Maraj after he had already been arrested to settle a potential lawsuit, but he said the girl's mother was unaware of the demand.

Following three weeks of litigation and absolutely appalling details coming forth in the trial against Jelani Maraj, the brother of Nicki Minaj has been convicted of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child in Nassau District Court.

Jurors issued the verdict on Thursday in Long Island court.

His sentence will be handed down next month - and he faces 25 years to life behind bars.

Maraj showed no emotion when the verdict was read, and State Supreme Court Justice Robert McDonald ordered him held without bail in Nassau County jail in East Meadow. But she said once it did, Maraj told her she "wanted it to happen", and slapped her in the face if she refused his advances. Maraj's lawyers said during a almost one-month trial that rape allegations were concocted by the girl's mother as part of a scheme to get Nicki Minaj to pay the family $25 million in hush money, but in closing arguments Monday, Nassau County Assistant District Attorney Emma Slane called that claim "absolute absurdity".

"We hope that today's verdict will help the family in the healing process and that it will close this awful chapter in their lives", District Attorney Madeline Singas said following the guilty verdict.

Prosecutors said DNA evidence recovered from the girl's pajama trousers was linked to Maraj. The girl's younger brother also testified at the trial that he witnessed one assault.

Minaj, 34, did not testify and has yet to address her brother's conviction.

Neither Maraj nor his sister testified at the trial.

Minaj has not yet responded to the news.
