Putin, Trump to meet in Vietnam

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says a meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is "still under consideration".

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday accused the United States of trying to interfere with Russia's presidential campaign in retaliation for what the Kremlin dismisses as unfounded US allegations that Moscow interfered in the 2016 USA presidential vote.

Russian Federation has repeatedly denied allegations of interfering in the United States election past year that brought Trump to power. With fewer than 100 days before the beginning of the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, the International Olympic Committee has still not made a decision about whether to let the country that hosted the 2014 Games participate.

"Here is what worries me: the (Winter) Olympics start in February, and when are our presidential elections?"

Last week, Russian cross-country skier Alexander Legkov was stripped of his Olympic 50-kilometre title after the IOC found him guilty of doping.

An explosive 2016 report commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency alleged state-sponsored doping in Russian Federation from 2011 to 2015. Russian Federation has denied any state-sponsored system of doping. "And the controlling interest is in the United States, because major companies contracting and paying for television broadcasting rights, major sponsors, major advertisers are there".

Relations between Moscow and Washington have plummeted as a U.S. probe has accused Trump's former campaign aides of secretly meeting Kremlin-connected officials.

Friday's gathering of the two leaders on the sidelines of the 25th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation will be their second face-to-face encounter this year since a G-20 summit in July in Hamburg, Germany. It could take place either tomorrow or on Saturday.

"President Putin is ready for that and the Americans know that". "Russia never had and, I hope, will never have a system of state doping of which we are being accused", Putin said on Thursday.

"We heard the announcement of Donald Trump himself that he is planning such a meeting with President Putin", Mr Lavrov said.
